HFS Pattern Release - Morgan Pattern & Kits

We've just released our Morgan pattern, a stranded colourwork hat.  Morgan is made with the lovely Skein Queen Crush, (hand dyed in the UK), which produces a lightweight but cosy hat. The contrast colour, Snowfields, has subtle speckles of rose, blue, and brown while the main colour, Highclere Castle, is a beautiful semi-solid purplish brown.

There are no long floats or complicated stitch patterns in Morgan, making it perfect for beginners or those looking for an easy, rhythmic colourwork knitting project.

Skein Queen Crush is perfect for this project but the yarn possibilities are endless and we encourage you to experiment with colours.  This project is also great for sweater leftovers and  busting some stash! You can visit our Hand Knit Hats section for several examples of this hat made in different colour combos and yarns.

Top your hat off with a fun pom pom or wear it without one. Make a big, small, or in-between yarn pom pom or use a faux fur pom pom…make it your own! (Shown here with Silver Fox faux fur pom pom.)

Morgan has a relaxed fit, with a 2x1 rib and just a touch of slouch, (.5 – 1” positive ease in the body) and is 9.5 inches tall excluding pom pom.

Morgan can be purchased as a downloadable pattern through our web site or through Ravelry.  We've also put together baa ram ewe Pip Colourwork Kits that include the pattern and yarn, and the pattern is FREE when you purchase a kit!

You will need:

  • Approximately 40g main colour and 30g in contrast colour
  • 16" circular or DPNs in sizes US1.5/2.5mm and US3/3.25mm for rib and body respectively
  • DPNs in size US3/3.25mm for crown
  • Stitch marker and tapestry needle
  • Optional: Pom Pom
