Project Inspiration - None of Your Beeswax Hat

If, like me, you love the look of cables, but not the fiddly business of using cable needles, then I have just the project for you!

The Beeswax Hat by Amy van de Laar is a quick, fun knit that results in a very wearable hat perfect for a last minute gift or for yourself.  Add a faux fur pom pom, a tassel, or nothing at all.

The pattern is well written and includes instructions for doing those two stitch cables without a needle in a way that was new to me, so this was a bonus.  The first few rounds of the chart will require some concentration, but you'll soon find yourself zipping along through the chart, eagerly anticipating the rhythm of the next round.

I made just one minor modification in that I started with 96 stitches, (one less repeat), which resulted in a cozy fit for my average adult size head.  For a slouchier fit I would suggest following the pattern as written.

I used High Fibre Shop Merino DK in a colour called None of Your Beeswax, which is gold with pinkish overtones because that seemed appropriate for the project.  However, if you look through the project pages at Ravelry you will see that this hat works equally well in any number of colours and tones.  I topped off my hat with a bright pink faux fur pom pom because...pom pom!

All in all a very enjoyable project appropriate for intermediate knitters or those looking for a little adventure.  It probably helps to have a little experience with cables, but that's not completely necessary if you are willing to learn!
